When I started, the company was on the brink of ruin and selling itself to another company. Today this company is thriving and very profitable. Its owners are flush with cash and looking for new markets. This can be your future if we may be the right fit for each other. Are you a company that has at least $1 million a year in revenue, a few employees, but looking for the next step? Hiring a full-time CMO is scary. You try to find a rockstar that will stick with you for years, but they can also be a fortune. Add on top of their cost the cost for other marketing expenses - employees, software, ad spend, you name it. At the end of the day, you could be looking at $500,000 - $2 million a year in marketing spend, depending on where you are today. With an outsource CMO that works with you part-time and deploys a ready-made web of connections - people and services - you can cut that cost in half or more, while still getting the same results. Getting it perfectly optimized for search engines is an ongoing project. You're trying to focus on growing sales on your ecommerce site and SEO is one of the best ways to do so. But you're a little bit lost. Before you decide on a Magento SEO specialist, let me highlight a few of the problems with Magento SEO and how we can fix them: 1. Magento Makes it Hard to Find Meta Tags It's funny, I've used WordPress for years and Magento the past year, and it's like night and day. Yes, there are a ton of SEO plugins you can add on to Magento to make it much easier, but out of the box, Magento doesn't make it easy. You have to poke around for the title tag, meta description, and more on Magento - and it changes whether you're on a category, product, or CMS page. It's tough, but we can make it easier by finding the right plugins and optimizing from there. 2. Magento Page Redirects are Unclear There's a setting you must make sure is set every time you want to change the name of a page in Magento. If you don't, you'll lose the original page. In other CMS's such as WordPress, it's automatic. But not so on Magento. You have to first configure the setting at a higher level, and then on the individual pages make sure it's good to go. It's... --- - Published: 2020-10-04 - Modified: 2020-10-04 - URL: https://greenflagdigital.com/natural-food-beverage-cpg-seo/ The brutal truth is that only 10-20% of natural food companies are ready to engage in an SEO campaign. Now, I've seen SEO do wonders for companies, and there are some really good brands out there that do it well (Aloha, Thrive, Honest). Most CPG (consumer packaged goods) brand websites are just not ready. The marketing team is likely not sophisticated enough to commit to producing content on an ongoing basis, nor are they ready to read Google Analytics reports. The challenge in this industry is that there is a fundamental disconnection between online and offline activities. If you get 20,000 visits to your organic juice page that's great, but are you ready to track and convert that traffic into either online sales or track for offline offers? The other challenge is that margins can be somewhat thin, and when margins are not thin, the purchase value of the products are low. If someone buys your $8 item online, there's not a ton of room to test strategies that will I'm a health nut myself, so I absolutely love working with natural and organic brands. The problem when you're relaunching your website is you're pulling together so many different functions - your developers, designers, marketers, writers, analytics, SEO, and content people. You probably have a project manager managing the process, but that's in the best-case scenario. I've personally seen one too many website relaunches go wrong to not say anything about it: they are by and large a crapshoot. We're getting a bit philosophical here, but "top pages on a website" or "best pages on a website" is a very broad and subjective question. There are many ways of defining the top pages on a website, whether by traffic, leads, revenue generation, PR and backlinks, or more. Before beginning, you should start with the end in mind: what is the goal? It's important to "Begin with the end in mind," as Steven Covey often said. It's something I forget about all the time, but it's essential: what is the end goal in doing all of this? Measure revenue? Plan a strategy? Analyze the competition? Build a marketing plan? Use as a general source of data Often we may want to explore the area first before we dive in and can assign ROI to it. In this case, it likely makes sense to frame it as a fact-finding project with a concrete start and end date. Based off of that we can then assign value and prioritization and place it in our overall corporate + business market strategy. What metrics do you need to see? Using content analysis, researchers can quantify and analyze the presence, meanings, and relationships of such certain words, themes, or concepts. As an example, researchers can evaluate language used within a news article to search for bias or partiality. Researchers can then make inferences about the messages within the texts, the writer(s), the audience, and even the culture and time of surrounding the text. Columbia University A more comprehensive definition from Atlas. ti: Content analysis, in its simplest form, is a research method for interpreting and quantifying textual data, such as speeches, interviews, articles, social media posts, and so on. It allows researchers to sift through large volumes of data to identify patterns, themes, or biases and turn these into quantifiable variables that can be further analyzed. At its core, content analysis combines elements of both qualitative and quantitative research methods. The method itself is systematic and replicable, aiming to condense a significant amount of text into fewer content categories based on explicit rules of coding. Yet, the interpretive component of understanding the context, nuances, and underlying meanings of the content being analyzed remains essential, borrowing heavily from qualitative research traditions. No longer was Google purely creating its own ranking factors, it was leveraging ML and reinforcement learning, along with 10,000 quality raters, to teach the algorithm what it wanted certain factors to cater to for ideal outputs (there are many degrees of this, not a blanket statement). How does Google use machine learning in its ranking factors? Google uses machine learning in several ways to enhance its search engine functionality and the overall user experience. Here are some of the key ways in which Google uses machine learning: RankBrain: Google's RankBrain is a machine learning-based component of Google's core algorithm, which is used to understand the context and intent behind search queries. RankBrain is especially useful for processing and understanding the meaning of complex, multi-word queries or queries that have not been seen before. Machine learning is a subset of artificial intelligence (AI) that focuses on developing systems capable of learning and improving from experience, without being explicitly programmed. This learning process involves feeding large amounts of data to the algorithm and allowing it to adjust and improve its performance to make accurate predictions or decisions. In essence, machine learning involves three core components: Model: This is the system or algorithm that makes predictions or identifications. Parameters: These are the factors considered by the model to make predictions. They are the "knowledge" the model learns from the training data. Learner: This is the system that adjusts the parameters and aspects of the model based on the feedback it gets from its predictions to improve the model's performance. There are several types of machine learning, including: Supervised Learning: The model is provided with labeled training data and the desired outputs. The goal is to learn a general rule that maps inputs to outputs. An example might be a spam detection system, where emails are labeled as "spam" or "not spam". Unsupervised Learning: The model is given data without any specific instructions on what to do with it. The goal is to identify patterns and relationships within the data. An example might be customer segmentation in a dataset of customer behavior information. The aim is to find the optimal parameters that minimize the loss (error) function. Imagine you're in a valley surrounded by mountains, and your goal is to find the lowest point in the valley. But, you are blindfolded and can only feel the slope of the terrain directly under your feet. A good strategy would be to go downhill in the direction of the steepest slope. This is essentially what gradient descent does. Here's a more formal explanation: Initialization: We start with random values for our model's parameters. Compute the Gradient: The gradient of a function gives the direction of the steepest ascent. For minimization, we're interested in the steepest descent, so we take the negative of the gradient. The gradient is a vector that points in the direction of the greatest rate of increase of the function, and its magnitude indicates the rate of change. Update the Parameters: We then update our parameters (model's coefficients) in the opposite direction to the gradient. The size of the step we take is determined by the learning rate, a hyperparameter that controls how much we are adjusting the weights of our network with respect the loss gradient. Iterate: We repeat steps 2 and 3 until the algorithm converges to a minimum. A stopping criterion (like a maximum number of iterations or a minimum change in error) is used to end the process. There... --- - Published: 2023-05-09 - Modified: 2023-05-09 - URL: https://greenflagdigital.com/content-seo-hub/brand-sentiment-analysis/ - Documentation Categories: Brand, Brand Sentiment Analysis You may have heard about brand sentiment analysis, but like me didn’t know much depth about it versus the surface level concept. Before research, if I were to define it, I would say it’s a periodic or constant collection, processing and analysis of what your ideal target market thinks of your brand. As I understand it’s measured both qualitatively and quantitatively. I would imagine if it’s lower than a certain threshold, brand damage occurs. I would also imagine there are diminishing returns after a certain level, but perhaps there’s an infinite limit, which would lead to non-monopolistic mega brands like Google and Amazon and Apple. After deeper research, this is what I found. What is brand sentiment analysis? Brand sentiment analysis, also known as opinion mining, is the use of natural language processing (NLP), text analysis, computational linguistics, and biometrics to systematically identify, extract, quantify, and study affective states and subjective information. In the context of a brand, it refers to understanding how the public or its target audience perceives it based on data collected from various sources. The data for brand sentiment analysis could come from numerous sources such as social media posts, reviews, blog posts, forum discussions, and more. Essentially, it includes any place where consumers may share their opinions or feelings about a brand. Brand sentiment analysis typically classifies sentiments into positive, negative, and neutral. Some models may include more nuanced classifications such as "very positive," "somewhat positive," "neutral," "somewhat negative," and "very negative. " This analysis... --- - Published: 2023-05-01 - Modified: 2023-05-01 - URL: https://greenflagdigital.com/content-seo-hub/keyword-rankings/ - Documentation Categories: 10x Growth, Business Metrics, Exponential Growth, Scalable Growth, SEO, Startup Growth What are keyword rankings? Keyword rankings in SEO are the rankings in search engine results pages (SERPs) for target keywords that you're tracking. Most of the time these rankings are Google Rankings, as they have 90% share of most markets. Are keyword rankings important? Keyword rankings are at the core of SEO. It depends on many things. Modern SEO professionals will often respond that keyword rankings are but one of many metrics to track with SEO. Whereas, historically SEOs were often mostly focused on keyword rankings. The industry has changed over time to better show the entire spectrum of how SEO impacts the business. While keyword rankings are largely de-emphasized, they still play a critical role. I look at keyword rankings as a good leading performance indicator, but not the final one. If you have great keyword rankings, but really bad landing pages, a bad brand and poor product-market-fit, it's unlikely they will do much for you, and may be a distraction while you need to fix your brand. On the flipside, there may be a local personal injury law firm, where the difference between ranking #1 and #3 for their top money-making keyword could be the difference of millions per year. Are they important for SEO? Keyword rankings are very popular KPIs for SEO efforts. Ultimately, before you can have organic traffic, you must have a keyword ranking. As opposed to a traditional linear funnel approach, a flywheel represents a cycle of continuous improvement and growth. In the context of a startup's go-to-market strategy, a marketing flywheel is focused on acquiring, engaging, and retaining customers in a way that reinforces each of these stages. How can they help startups go viral? A marketing flywheel can help startups go viral by creating a continuous cycle of user engagement, growth, and word-of-mouth referrals. By providing value to users and encouraging them to share their experiences, startups can leverage existing customers to attract new ones. This momentum can create a snowball effect, leading to rapid growth and increased awareness. How do they relate to content creation and marketing? How does it related to viral content? How does it relate to viral PR? This popular term measures and predicts how fast a startup will grow via referrals and virality. The viral coefficient is a metric used to measure the growth of a product or service, especially in the context of startups. It represents the number of new users an existing user generates on average through referrals or sharing. A higher viral coefficient indicates faster growth, as each existing user brings in more new users. Relation to viral content:Viral content is any piece of content (e. g. , articles, videos, or images) that spreads rapidly and widely across the internet, often through social media platforms. A high viral coefficient can result from viral content, as users share the content with their networks, leading to an exponential increase in exposure and user acquisition. Thus, creating and promoting viral content can be an effective strategy for startups to increase their viral coefficient and accelerate growth. Relation to viral PR:Viral PR (public relations) refers to the phenomenon where a company, product, or service generates significant media attention and buzz due to an event, announcement, or marketing campaign that resonates with the public. Better yet, for educational purposes, I have a test website that lost 90% of its traffic from this update. So that test website is an Amazon Associates review website, centered around a tech product niche. What's interesting about that is it rose really high last year, with not too much effort, and I was surprised how well it was doing. It was outranking some established magazines for really solid terms. I had one page in particular, that I built one anchor-rich link to and that page was my #1 page, doing 80%+ of revenue. The thing is, I was extremely surprised it ever ranked well. By all metrics it should have ranked at the bottom of page 1 for the product review keyword term (think "best xyz for abc" style). But it was ranking for the broad product keyword, outranking Amazon and other big magazines. It should have never ranked #1. But it did and I was pleased. But these three are the large rollup, "meta-factors": Content – your website can’t rank without content. Content is a general term for articles, pages, blog posts, videos, graphics, everything on your site that is on a page. SEO is the process of optimizing and amplifying your best content to drive traffic that meets your goals. Backlinks and publicity – these go hand in hand. Backlinks are links from other sites to your website. You want to focus on quality links rather than pure volume. It’s better to have 10 links from 10 different top newspaper websites than 1,000 links from random Blogspot blogs of little substance. Publicity efforts generate mentions and links to your brand. There are many other tactics to get backlinks from a traditional SEO practitioners perspective as well. Technical SEO – the foundation for your site. Technical SEO is important from the beginning, and can make and break any site (ex: broken robots. txt), but it has the most substantial impact on large, important websites with tons of traffic and pages. While many people like to point out that ChatGPT and other LLMs send a smaller amount of referral traffic than Google Search, the growth rates are astounding. They mimic Google's meteoric rise in the early 2000s. That being said, we need to balance where human attention is and where our audiences and employees are spending their time. My personal opinion is that it's important to think about two things with AI: How do we use AI to improve our business operations such that we can make things more efficient, faster, and do things we've never done before? How will things change as far as marketing distribution. If today our audiences spend most of their time in the browser during work hours, and most of their leisure time on social media or online shopping, where does AI as a distribution channel come in? What percent of people are on ChatGPT during work or play, and is that your core audience. These are open-ended questions which we'll explore further here. Using AI for Business Operations It's important to note first, just how vividly companies want AI to transform their business operations. As Jason Lemkin noted on a recent podcast, incumbent companies like Salesforce, Okta, and Service now have already done a lot of workflow automation internally. But those seeking digital PR are after something more specific: they want to land brand mentions and links to support their cross-channel digital marketing strategy. Smaller sites in this area that are trying to hack the system with an SEO-only approach are living on borrowed time. The overall lesson here is that SEO should be an integral part of a comprehensive strategy. In my opinion, many big brands don’t dedicate enough time to SEO, but there are many very intelligent people analyzing the numbers and making that decision. Smart arbitragers could make millions with direct response ads on Google, Meta, and even chum-bucket Taboola and Outbrain ads - and still do well in certain niche markets. Brand vs Performance: Which is better? Ask leading marketers which is better and they'll tell you there is no right answer, it all depends on the context, situation, and goals of the company at that moment in time. Now, there's one derivation of that called "digital PR" with the goal of landing media coverage primarily for the high DR links. I think we need to move away from that and get back to the fundamental goals again. Links are important, but optimizing for their volume and DR is not the way to go moving forward. The DOJ slides showed us just how much Google is relying on user signals for ranking. So that means, optimize for user signals. Real referral traffic is a strong signal. Real referral traffic with great engagement time, visiting multiple pages, and converting is an amazing user satisfaction signal. We now know Google can measure that. Google will continue to seek out new and innovative ways to both satisfy their users - especially as the AI LLM battles heat up - while also protecting their revenue via ads. In fact, I think there's a critical correlation between ads traffic and organic traffic in many scenarios - purely because of the influence additional impressions for a brand have on someone's perception of a brand. Should you host your blog on Shopify or a subdomain with WordPress? This one is fairly straightforward: run your blog on Shopify. There are big benefits to having your blog on a subfolder of your Shopify domain, and not a subdomain with some other blogging CMS, perhaps up to a 40% traffic boost by moving from a subdomain to subfolder. Canadian communication theorist Marshall McLuhan coined this phrase. According to Wikipedia: McLuhan proposes that a communication medium itself, not the messages it carries, should be the primary focus of study. There are more mediums and messages than ever. Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, newsletters, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, SNL's Weekend Update, the New York Times, WSJ. Your neighbor Al. The list goes on. This confusing swirl of options means that the decision and pairing is more important than ever. The Medium is the Message Examples Studying shortform content like TikTok, Reels, and YouTube shorts is a perfect example of where the medium is dominating the message. Users of short-form video content are looking for short, snackable videos that they can swipe through quickly. The interesting components of the medium are: mobile phone, shortform video, social network they're viewing it on. They are swiping through shortform video because that's the mood they're in and how they want to consume it. The content itself has to be interesting and entertaining, but what are the messages of all of these videos? It's completely splintered and random. The medium is the message. I'm assuming that you're in an industry where blogging is useful (link), and where you are technically able to blog on your company site. There's two sides of the debate: blog frequently vs blog really well. What I believe is the best answer will come later, but first a summary of some of the arguments and facts. Let's get one thing out there and set up the two extremes. How often should you blog? As much as you need to hit your goals, at the right price and quality level, and if it's a high-ROI and high-priority channel that you should act on. To give you a quick answer, if you have any sort of blog - whether personal or business - you should blog at least once a month. Your blog content should be high quality always. If you cannot blog at least once a month consistently, shut it down or show it as a resource archive and remove the dates. There's nothing more annoying than a stale, old blog, and if you're in a space where Google rewards newer, better, fresher content it's only a matter of time before that blog of yours is completely worthless. Write 25 Posts First Before you even decide on a blogging platform, write 25 posts on Medium. Then if you're ready for the next 25, move over to your own WordPress blog (most recommended) or other CMS. Then Write 100 Posts After that, write 100 posts. You'll now have enough data to decide: Where Did you Make the Most Money? Money is your goal - most likely - so how much did you make? This is more important than: What Posts Gave you the Most Traffic? This is a great KPI, but not the be all, end-all. What is your Ikagi Where do you love to write about? What format? What style? A company's marketing strategy is multi-faceted, but at the end of the day it should be centered around market dominance. Even the most cutting edge fields have established markets. Example: OpenAI is presently dominating the generative AI field. This is a new field, but they did not create it. They are definitely expanding it faster than ever, but it existed to a small degree. But that's extremely new - Apple is a better example since they are a 40+ year old company and currently the best in the world. For that reason, intuition and expertise is very important with SEO. SEO testing is possible with tools like SearchPilot if you have the right scale, and you should always be testing. In competitive scenarios, you have to know what to do, when to do it, how to implement, secure the right budget In short windows of arbitrage, those who move fastest will win. For the right personalities this is the best implementation of SEO for them, when they need those quick feedback loops. Enterprise SEO has the power to have a lot of traffic data to work with, and their natural enterprise longer cycles can be a good fit for the patience of SEO. Likewise, on the flipside, upstart startups with VC money to spend and move as quick as possible to the next funding round often need to use ads and growth playbooks to get them to the next stage the fastest, and SEO isn't fast enough until post-series B, and often not until series C or E. Many don't do SEO because the feedback loop is too long and they have to hit quarterly and monthly budgets SEO is kind of the opposite of sales. It doesn't make sense to spend a lot on SEO content if you don't have a clear reason and strategy. It could suck out a lot of marketing dollars if you don't have a plan to capitalize on it. The technological lifecycle forces tech companies to constantly be innovating. Apple is the perfect example of this, disrupting themselves constantly. Google, Tesla, Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, all follow this concept - they are always out innovating. For the same reason, in SEO we should always be stacking s-curves, especially for the fact that we are tied to Google for 90% of what we do. So if Google is stacking their own s-curves, disrupting themselves as a search engine and platform, then we have to match it and keep up. Likewise with our SEO strategy, when we find the alpha, we should exploit that, while also planning for the next s-curves. The more you do black hat SEO, the more you have to innovate and stack s-curves faster. This can work for some who can continue to do that but many get burned out. SEOs should think more like startups: find the value they are delivering, continue to deliver it cheaper and better I think the average SEO is much slower to change than the average startup engineer. In order to get media coverage, when pitching journalists, digital PRs and content marketers should clearly communicate how this idea you're pitching fits into the larger narrative for journalists, making it as easy as possible to publish as part of their own story. Here are some ways to do this. 1. Pitch an idea that has multiple angles with wide appeal overall When creating a content campaign to pitch for media coverage, you're not always sure which journalists in which beats will be interested in your campaign. With this in mind, it's best to create a story that has multiple angles. You'll then test these different angles with 3-5 different audiences and roll with those who respond the most favorably. 2. Summarize in the subject line Much like the hook of an article, summarizing the campaign in the subject line is critical to earn the open. Journalists and editors are flooded with hundreds of emails a day. They know what story ideas work, and what don't. If you can hook them in the subject line, you've got a shot. 3. Highlight the key takeaways in the outreach email After the open, you've now earned the right to close the deal in the body of your email. This is where you should succinctly list out the key points of the story.... --- - Published: 2023-02-28 - Modified: 2023-02-28 - URL: https://greenflagdigital.com/digital-pr-win-mindset/ - Categories: Digital PR - Notify Users: Joe Robison Give me a shoutout. Because I want one. No, I have nothing to offer you. Imagine being on the receiving end of that pitch. Hard pass. Old school traditional PR and tactical link building have merged into a sustainable digital growth strategy: digital PR. There are many flavors of digital PR, but the content marketing & link-building variety is a powerful way to earn media coverage and backlinks. The best way to approach this is with a win/win mindset where both sides gain value. 1. The Win/Win Mindset Means Thinking of the Editorial Tastes & Trends When you create content with the mindset of providing valuable content for a journalist to cover, you are already on the right track. Taking it one step further means thinking about what the editor of the beat is thinking and how you can create a campaign that appeals to them. This forces you to create higher-quality pieces that get editorial approval and have better overall potential to win. 2. And Thinking of the Audience's Audience While creating and pitching something that gets approved by the editors is the first step, ultimately you want to create something with wide appeal. It should get shared, linked to, and loved by your audience's audience. Incorporate macro and micro-trends and hit on all the right emotions to create story-driven content that consumers love. 3. There are certainly some owners that are really good at strategy, ops, and marketing, but it's not the majority. Small businesses are in a really tough spot with hiring marketing agencies - their budget is constrained to a few hundred to the low thousands a month. It's enough to do something but not enough to make a big dent. The only thing tougher than small business marketing is small business SEO. According to JP Morgan Chase, “Over 99 percent of America’s 28. 7 million firms are small businesses. The vast majority (88 percent) of employer firms have fewer than 20 employees, and nearly 40 percent of all enterprises have under $100k in revenue. ” Perhaps I’m only speaking from my own experiences, but reading SEO blog posts and Tweets, I can’t help but think that the majority of SEO conversation topics are too low-level and missing the forest for the trees. The advice isn't super helpful for small businesses. Examples: 1. Talking about site loading speeds, when small business sites have 5 pages and it won't make an impact 2. Granular discussion about Schema and rich snippets 3. Overly complicated link building advice The truth is, there's so much information out there that small business owners just don't have time to separate the wheat from the chaff. By understanding the symbiotic power of content and media/distribution, marketers, writers, and creators can better amplify their ideas (and offerings). Content and Media Distribution are Codependent Content and media go hand in hand. For those of us who didn’t take comm 101 in college, the term media is a vague thing that means “the news”. But the real definition is much more relevant to anyone trying to distribute written ideas online. Media are the communication outlets or tools used to store and deliver information or data. So the term media means the tools used for distribution. This is a powerful concept and weapon. They can be entrusted only to new artists because they are art forms. ” Powerful Syndication Networks Scale Your Content Exponentially Land a story on Travel + Leisure and watch it get syndicated to MSN and Yahoo. I’ve fallen victim to this mentality and the result is months without publishing. Turning this idea on its head is interesting. What if micro, daily publishing builds a better habit? German mathematician Carl Gustav Jacob Jacobi said “invert, always invert” as a way to solve difficult problems.   One thought that came to my mind was the idea of iterative writing instead of long form all-in-one writing. Instead of waiting for inspiration, caffeine and an open 4-hour time block to all align at once, invert it. Instead of sitting down and writing the perfect article all in one go, build it piece by piece.   One way to do it is to set up folders in Notion for topics, and saving content along with a few sentences of thoughts. I spend an unhealthy 25-50% of my day reading and saving information, so at least this is an improvement. A second way is to have an idea for an article in mind and publishing the smallest version of it, and then iteratively improving it over time - I think this is even better. It’s like shipping 1. 0 of a software program and improving it with each release. A third way is to ship complete 250-word atomic essays that can stand on their own as is and don’t need to be iterated on to make sense. Thankfully I came across Ship 30 for 30, which counters the isolation of writing.  ... --- - Published: 2023-02-28 - Modified: 2023-02-28 - URL: https://greenflagdigital.com/content-frameworks-that-earn-media-coverage-and-links/ - Categories: Digital PR - Notify Users: Joe Robison Media coverage can be fuel for great businesses, supercharging great products and brand marketing. Links allow for website and webpage discovery, crawlability, and authority ranking. But acquiring links in a consistent and predictable way is the scourge of virtually every marketing manager. But one thing that’s important to emphasize is zooming out and looking at the link graph. The important concept to introduce and remind is to think about links not as isolated concepts. No - think about it as linking many nodes together that form a link graph, similar to the human brain with connected neurons. Two ideas worth thinking of: 1. A link graph should represent the corpus of a subject. NerdWallet is a personal finance site that produced high-quality content. They're an emblematic example of a brand that covers the entire corpus of the subject. If there's a personal finance topic, they'll write about it. In the same vein, we expect their articles to be linked to by a large percentage of the most authoritative websites on the internet whenever those websites are also discussing a topic that NerdWallet has written on. Competitors won't link, but quality sites that cite their sources will. When Google decides whether to rank NerdWallet or LendingTree for a certain result, they should evaluate the corpus of the content and the link graph to determine ranking. They should look at the link graph as a whole rather than individual silver bullet links. 2. The New Super Star in Search: Generative and Conversational AI It remains to be seen how we will classify generative and conversational AI, but at the moment I think the average sentiment is that there's a lot of overlap with search. It feels like in the business and tech press, everything is about AI. We know that ChatGPT dominates consumer mindshare for branding, and has been a runaway success since their November 2022 ChatGPT launch. Claude has been hot with developers using Claude Code, but gets very little consumer adoption when looking at the whole population. Elon Musk has a vendetta against Sam Altman for, as he says it, turning the non-profit into a for-profit and effectively "stealing" ownership. Meta's Mark Zuckerberg is aggressively poaching employees from OpenAI and other big labs, with some rumored pay packages worth up to $100 million or even billion-dollar offers. Through all this hype and total narrative domination, some names can get lost in the shuffle. Most of us outside of tech and finance aren't aware of CoreWeave, but they've grown fast as a key player this year and with their recent IPO. While overshadowed by AI funding, there have still been some large cybersecurity exits and acquisitions, most notably Google's $32 billion acquisition of Wiz. We want to explore the rest of the space, but not just anecdotally. We needed some data. So, we put our heads together and refined metrics on cybersecurity companies that have received lots of funding and are funded in the Silicon Valley ecosystem. I don't know that there's one perfect stack, I think it's all kind of customized to what you want. From what I've learned and read, you want one central CRM to keep everything together and in one hub - and for me that's HubSpot. But smaller stacks could very well go through a spreadsheet or another CRM to get started. Why build a multi-tool stack vs going with an all-in-one? My personal preference at the moment is to be able to manage the discrete steps and parts of the process as I try to dial it in. In the past I used an automated software that did get me sending cold emails out, but I was a bit dependent on how they built their internal software. My preference is to ideate on a target lead list, generate the list, enrich it, curate it, and work it over a period of 3-6 months in a multi-touch campaign, with variable engagement moments. I sometimes prefer a slow onramp, sometimes get inspired to go right for the punches. All that being said, if I had to limit myself to an all-in-one stack, I would personally go with HubSpot as much as possible, with Apollo as a close, cheaper 2nd. I'm aware of some AI SDRs - Artisan AI is the only brand I can recall at the moment (take notes) - but I have not trialed any yet. I've used... --- --- ## Portfolio - Published: 2024-02-08 - Modified: 2024-02-08 - URL: https://greenflagdigital.com/portfolio/media-coverage-ny-times/ We landed coverage for an education and student discount client on NY Times: To do this, we created something truly useful, and based on real data: and Index of the Best Towns for Students on a Budget, which we called The Ramen Index: How we produced this in collaboration with the client: We built out a strong index with a lot of ranking factors, analyzing key data points to uncover where students could live the most affordably, while also enjoying life and having fun: Then we visualized this in an interactive mapping tool: In the coverage, The New York Times used the data we created with the client, and formatted it in their own way: This campaign focused on new insights, rock-solid data, and true value to the reader. At the end of the day, the campaign stood on its own. We helped the client share this with the right people who demonstrated that they wanted to write about this content, and we helped connect the dots. This was a fun campaign, and we went on to produce many more with similar success. "Green Flag Digital did an amazing job catering each campaign to our audience and brand while still making the content interesting and attractive from a promotion standpoint. So much thought and research went into each campaign; you really can tell they care about what they do and helping their clients. The Green Flag Digital team worked hand-in-hand with MindBodyGreen’s internal content team to identify, revamp, and rewrite specific pieces of content with SEO best practices in place. The main goal was to rewrite pages to better incorporate other topics, entities, and terms that competing companies were using in their articles to make them more authoritative and well-rounded. This included using tools like Clearscope and Surfer SEO to more rapidly identify important concepts that were overlooked. “Although we had in-house expertise, we needed outside help to speed up our content optimization process at MindBodyGreen. Working with Joe and Green Flag Digital was a great experience overall. We moved fast and efficiently to upgrade our content assets and see ranking improvements quickly, with traffic improvements ranging from 30-125%. I’d highly recommend Green Flag Digital for content optimization projects. ”Dan Peskin, Former VP Growth, MindBodyGreen Among those published pieces, MBG witnessed an average of a 55% increase in traffic within weeks of republishing. --- - Published: 2020-06-29 - Modified: 2023-06-13 - URL: https://greenflagdigital.com/portfolio/travel-tour-operator-seo-case-study/ Bucket List Events is a renowned tour operator offering extraordinary, once-in-a-lifetime trips worldwide.
